Our Story
Committed to the Southern California region he grew up in, Guy Alexander Jr. has spent nearly four decades developing land and building homes and neighborhoods throughout the area. With hands-on experience in various construction trades from a young age, it was a natural progression for him to form Alexander Construction in 1976.
After several successful years as a contractor and with a growing skill set in land acquisition, financing, planning, sales, and marketing, Guy partnered with longtime friend and business associate Phil Catania. In 1983, the two founded Alexander/Catania Development, where Guy served as President and Phil as Vice President.
Together, they completed over $100 million in total sales and developed more than 850 residential units, including single-family homes, apartments, condominiums, and buildable lots across Southern California. After nearly two decades of collaboration, they chose to pursue independent ventures while maintaining a strong professional relationship.
In 1998, Guy launched Alexander Communities and served as President and CEO. The company sold nearly 400 single-family homes and condominiums valued at over $167 million and was recognized for several years as one of Southern California’s top-ranked homebuilders in the Los Angeles Times’ annual surveys. Under Guy’s leadership, the company also entitled and sold more than 600 residential lots.
When the real estate market shifted in the mid-2000s, Alexander Communities made the strategic decision to pause production. As the market began to recover, Guy and his wife Sherry saw an opportunity to take a more focused and design-driven approach to homebuilding.
With a shared background in construction, development, and design, and a combined four decades of experience, the Alexanders launched Esoteric Homes. The company is dedicated to building high-quality, thoughtfully designed residences across Southern California, with a focus on craftsmanship, creativity, and lasting value.

Through Esoteric Homes, he now focuses on a more refined approach, creating modern, light-filled residences with a minimalist sensibility. Each home reflects his commitment to quality, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of how people truly want to live.

Sherry Alexander is the creative heart of Esoteric Homes. With a lifetime of experience as both a licensed general contractor and interior designer, she brings a rare blend of technical expertise and design sensibility to every project. Her work spans everything from large-scale developments to bespoke custom homes across Orange County and surrounding regions.
Sherry’s approach is hands on, and detail driven. She leads each project from concept to completion, managing everything from planning and budgeting to material sourcing, staging, and client communication. As President of Esoteric Homes, she ensures every residence is not only beautifully designed, but also built with purpose, precision, and care.
Her design philosophy is rooted in timeless style, clean lines, and thoughtful space planning. Whether selecting finishes, refining layouts, or curating furnishings, Sherry focuses on creating interiors that feel elevated, livable, and lasting. Her intuitive sense of style and dedication to client experience set the tone for what makes an Esoteric home feel distinctly personal.
